Things to Do
Once you’re ready to head out and explore the area around Hotham, here’s our insider’s guide to the best things to see and do in this wonderful part of Yorkshire.
The local area provides plenty of activities for kids, teens and grown-ups alike, including trails through the nearby Hotham Estate parkland and across the stunning Yorkshire Wolds Way.
Head out to the historic shopping havens of York and Beverley, or discover Hull, the UK’s City of Culture in 2017.
Take in the stunning Yorkshire coastline and witness the waves lapping against the sand at Filey or Runswick Bay, before tucking in to some of the best fish and chips the nation has to offer at Whitby’s Magpie café.
If you’d like to visit the Yorkshire Wolds landscape inspired by one of Britain’s most influent living artists, David Hockney, head out with the kids and wellies or walking boots onto the beautiful Wolds Way. There, you’ll experience softly rolling scenery and views across productive farmland, which grows everything from oil seed rape to peas and potatoes. Along the way you’ll be able to pick out the inspiration behind some of the artist’s most famous works, including ‘Bigger Trees at Warter’.
Marvel at sharks, turtles and seahorses at the Deep in Hull, one of the UK’s biggest aquariums (with over 3000 creatures!).
The renowned Drewton’s Farm Shop is just five minutes away.
Gastropubs The Star at Sancton and the Michelin starred Pipe and Glass at Dalton will not disappoint. Try the freshly baked Yorkshire puddings on a Sunday at The Star. The chef there has won awards for them! If you fancy leaving the car at home, you can always rely on Joe at the Hotham Arms to put on a fine spread.
